:“Dressed in White (code 40), the car’s paint and trim are in overall excellent condition, as are the glass panels, the lights, including the foglights. The bodywork is straight and solid, the engine bay is extremely tidy, the cargo hatch area is neat and tidy, the battery appears new and the body-colored bumpers fit tightly to the body and the undercarriage is what you would expect with a low mileage and well cared for Camaro. Inside, the red cloth interior (code AR9) is spic-and-span and still literally smells like a new car. The front buckets and rear demi-buckets look great, as is the matching carpet and headliner. The factory three-spoke steering wheel is in fine order, while the inner door panels and instrument panel with full array of gauges echo the rest of the interior’s theme. The center console and shift lever look great, too. The factory Delco-Bose AM/FM stereo with cassette complete the interior.”

Quite possibly the lowest-mileage 1986 Camaro in existence, this Z28 IROC-Z is highly original, one-owner car. Made in General Motors’ Van Nuys, California factory, it was shipped to Bob Smith Chevrolet in Louisville, Kentucky. The pre-delivery inspection was performed on September 30, 1986. Bobby and Barbara W. purchased the car from salesman Jimmy Kruer and drove the car home on October 6, 1986 and owned the Camaro until September of 2019.
This car left the line with the following options – power steering; hatch power pull-down; gauge package with tachometer; aluminum wheels; special sport suspension; rear spoiler; leather-wrapped steering wheel; tinted glass; IROC-Z performance package; rear window defroster grid; air-conditioning; comfort-tilt steering wheel; Delco-Bose AM/FM stereo with seek and scan, cassette deck, digital clock and extended range speakers. The Camaro was rustproofed and paint protected by Ziebart of Louisville before delivery by the dealer.
Dressed in White (code 40), the car’s paint and trim are in overall excellent condition, as are the glass panels, the lights, including the foglights. The bodywork is straight and solid, the engine bay is extremely tidy, the cargo hatch area is neat and tidy, the battery appears new and the body-colored bumpers fit tightly to the body and the undercarriage is what you would expect with low mileage and well cared for Camaro.
This F-body rolls on Goodyear Eagle VR50 radials, newer 245/50R16 in front and the original 245/50VR16 in back. Each tire is mounted on factory aluminum wheel. The wheels and tires are in very good order.
Under the hood is 5.0L V-8 with Tuned Port Injection (code LB9). The LB9 “Tuned Port Injection 5.0L” was introduced in 1985. At its core was the stout L69 short-block and it used the same aggressive L69 camshaft profile. The induction system was unlike any system used previously by GM. It featured large plenum made of cast aluminum, with individual runners made of tubular aluminum, feeding air to each cylinder. And each cylinder had its own fuel injector fed by fuel rail mounted above each bank. Backing this motor is 700R4 four-speed automatic transmission with overdrive (code MX0). Driver convenience features include air-conditioning, power rack-and-pinion steering, power disc/drum brakes, power windows, power locks, power mirrors, cruise control, tilt steering column and leather-wrapped steering wheel.
Inside, the red cloth interior (code AR9) is spic-and-span and still literally smells like new car. The front buckets and rear demi-buckets look great, as is the matching carpet and headliner. The factory three-spoke steering wheel is in fine order, while the inner door panels and instrument panel with full array of gauges echo the rest of the interior’s theme. The center console and shift lever look great, too. The factory Delco-Bose AM/FM stereo with cassette complete the interior.
For 1985, Chevrolet introduced the IROC-Z version that was named after the International Race of Champions. Offered as an option package on the Z28, the Camaro IROC-Z featured an upgraded suspension, lowered ride height, specially valved Delco-Bilstein shocks, larger diameter sway bars, steering/frame brace known as the “wonder bar,” special decal package, and an optional Tuned Port Injection system taken from the Chevrolet Corvette. It also shared the Corvette's Goodyear “Gatorback” unidirectional tires in 245/50/VR16 size vs. the Corvette's 255/50/VR16 size and received unique new aluminum five-spoke 16-by-8-inch wheels. The new wheels were designed with different offsets front and rear, resulting in the words “Front” or “Rear” cast into the wheels to distinguish which wheel went where.
A newly required Center High-mounted Stop Lamp (CHMSL) was installed on the Camaro. Nineteen eighty-six was the only year to see this attached to the outside hatchback glass on base model Sport Coupes, Z28s and IROC-Zs except for 1987 base models that did not have spoiler. The 305 TPI LB9 horsepower rating dropped in power for the IROC-Z models. All V-8 engines received new one-piece rear main seal. Braking performance was 139 feet from 60 mph.
Competition to this Camaro in 1986 included Chrysler’s Laser XT Turbo, Dodge’s Conquest and Daytona Turbo Z, Ford’s Mustang GT, Honda’s Prelude, Isuzu’s Impulse Turbo, Maserati’s Biturbo, Mercury’s Capri RS, Merkur’s XR4Ti, Mitsubishi’s Starion, Nissan’s 300ZX 2+2, Pontiac’s Firebird Trans Am, Porsche’s 924S and Toyota’s Supra.
