This Shovelglide is custom chopper with an88-cubic-inch engine. Shovelglide'smixture of new technology, old-school design, hand-formed parts, and artisticimagination is fitting tribute to its creator. Chopsmiths, anIndiana-based chopper shop, may be new venture, but judging by thiscustom-built machine, it will be producing choppers for many years to come. J.L. Hart is the craftsman behind most of the company's creations, and his talentis matched only by his imagination.Starting with CMC frame incorporating triangulated swingarm, both thebottom and rear sections were altered to fit the desired profile. Springerforks, originally from 1932 Harley-Davidson, were also modified for use onShovelglide. Fuel and oil tanks were both hand formed by Chopsmiths, as was therear fender. The headlight was created out of piston from John Deeretractor; the taillight came from an early Ford automobile. Perched atop the fuel tank with itsShovelglide logo is the hand-formed oil tank -- tinted gold tomatch other trim on the bike. The wood handgrips match the woodfloorboards, yet another example of this chopper's meticulous detailing.The 88-cubic-inch engine was built-up from variety of parts:Delkron cases, S&S cylinders, and STD heads. Exhaust pipes exit on eachside of the bike and are wrapped in protective tape. modern belt-driveprimary is used, but an old-style foot clutch/hand shifter are broughtinto play to stir the gears. Theengine's valve covers duplicate those of a Harley-Davidson ShovelheadV-twin, but are tinted gold, matching the hand-turned velocity stackon the S&S carburetor.
