1947 INDIAN CHIEF 

1947 INDIAN CHIEF, Engine Number: CDG1776 B In the 1940’s, with the motorcycle craze in full swing after WWII, the Indian Motorcycle Manufacturing Company turned out some of the most iconic road bikes of all time. 
The overall condition of this machine is very nice, with the paint being done sometime in the late 80's or early 90's. As far as the motor, frame, etc., everything is nice but not perfect, so the rest of the bike could very well be mostly original. Everything from the frame to the motor to the fenders are correct, and as far as can tell, just the way it came from the factory. 
I believe am the fourth owner from new, but can’t be positive. The previous owner purchased the bike in 1992. This machine has been part of my collection for some time and is actually ridden, not just dusted. It is also stored in temperature controlled environment throughout the entire year. When purchased this motorcycle, it was in the condition you see in the photos, but had not run in some time, since the owner was up in age and not able to ride anymore.  went through the entire machine, got everything working and started riding it occasionally.  All of the major engine, transmission, and braking components are operational. 
The tires are in good condition but not new. If you’re planning on riding this bike any distance, would replace them. ride it around town and haven’t had any issues, but if you buy the bike and would like me to install new tires, let me know and can get that done for you. Whatever my cost on the purchase and installation of the tires is, that's what you pay. The brakes have also been completely rebuilt, front and rear. 
The engine and transmission are original to each other and are in perfect running condition.  The bike kicks over and starts very easily.  brand new battery was also just installed.      The paint on the tank is in nice condition, as you can see in the photos.  The seat pan is an original pan which has been recovered in period correct covering. Overall, the chrome is in nice condition, and not in need of any type of work unless you want perfect bike you’ll never ride.   The Indian on the road is very easy to handle, and rides down the road tight, with no shakes, shimmies, or rattles.  It shifts and accelerates smoothly and holds the road as it should. It’s great machine to ride and enjoy as well as something you can take to show. Again, there is absolutely nothing that needs to be done to this machine to ride, show, and enjoy it.   I have motorcycle collection made up primarily of American, Italian, and Japanese motorcycles.
