Yamaha RD250 1973 Period Cafe Racer, needs work Please read the full description before bidding – thisbike will require work before riding. recommend you view first. Update: won't be able to show the bike to any potential bidders after Friday, due to work commitments.
Here’s my re-creation of an RD250 ownedback in the 1970s. It has loads of genuine 1970s parts and looks much the sameas my original bike from back in the day, possibly Sondel Sport or HamYam. Ithasn’t been cosmetically restored, but it has had loads of cash spent on theimportant stuff. GeneralMatching frame and engine numbers, 1973RD250, originally german bike, but now correctly registered in my name on aUK “L” registration plate. have swapped the km speedo for mph one, so themileage shown is not genuine. The frame has not been cut or modified in anyway, so this bike could be returned to standard if you wish. have most of theoriginal parts from when bought the bike, which could be for sale separatelyif required. have loads of pictures of the strip down and rebuild.I can start the bike for your inspection, but IT CANNOT BE RIDDEN (see end ofthis description) and it will need to be transported by van or trailer.FueltankI believe this is genuine aluminiumSondel Yamaha “Shadow kit” tank and it fits into the standard tank rubbermounts.SeatPeriod single seat – probably not the“Shadow kit”, but very similarPegs& barsPeriod rear sets and clip on handlebarsExhaustsPeriod expansions, make unknown but similarto “Shadow kit” pipesFairingPeriod fairing, identical to the one hadfitted to my old bike in the 1970sEngineRebore and new pistons, rings +1.00New con rods and small endsComplete crank rebuild All above by Taymar RacingCarbsNew set of jets, needles etc, spongefiltersGearboxInspection by Taymar Racing and declared OK/ better than most. think the 6th gear blanking has been removed,as it seems to select gears.ClutchNew plates, replacement basket from latermodel as broke fin on the old one when removing it.IgnitionNew Powerdynamo generator with integratedignition (replaces old dynamo, points, regulator and coils)BrakesNew front caliper, pads, HELL brake lineRear drum brake as standardElectricsEverything works except the front brakelight switchCyclepartsNew chain and sprocketsNew cush drive rubbersNew fork sealsNew rear shocksNew battery (not required, Powerdynamo canbe set to run without)Halogen headlamp conversion WORKREQUIREDThe engine had complete rebuild over thewinter, but somewhere along the line the seal between the crank and the gearboxhas failed. guess that one is down to me. The bike has only been run up in my garage, but it smokes like hell (white smoke) and the gearboxoil is disappearing. This is going to need another engine strip down to curethe fault, but would think it will only need gaskets and seals sinceeverything has been replaced and the bike hasn’t been run on the road sincethen. I’ve just lost interest and can’t find the energy to strip it down again. Cosmetically, the bike looks like asurvivor from the 1970s. You may want to ride it as it is or start painting. The frame is original paint with plenty of chips and scuffs and the fairinglooks like it’s been ridden through gravel trap! The expansions have goodfew dents, but are very solid and really like them. There are loads ofage-related marks everywhere. It’s registered as Historic Vehicle no tax orMOT required. This auction is open to UK bidders only.Contact me before bidding if you have less than 10 positive feedback or yourbid may be cancelled to protect me and the genuine bidders. You are bidding tobuy and not turn up and haggle that’s why you should view before bidding.  Winning bidder to pay non-refundable £200deposit via Paypal within 24 hours and to collect the bike within days unlessagreed otherwise. The balance can be paid in cash or via Paypal, whatever youprefer. Thanks for looking and good luck.
