1975 Norton 850 CommandoElectric Start Mk3
Please read very carefully.This very original Commando was owned by friend who passed away and am selling it on behalf of his Widow.Background:- Manufactured in 1975 and from the engine No. (331519) think it must be one of the last made. It was shipped to the USA and saw very little use. It was re-imported to the UK in 1990 and registered on 23/08/1990 and issued with 1975 Plate as the declared date of Manufacture was 1975.The current mileage is showing as 8,614 which although impossible to verify, would say is accurate as the machine is in totally original condition and suspect even the tyres may be original! It has all the original equipment including exhausts and silencers which are showing no sign of corrosion. The only surface rust is on the faces of the discs through lack of use but no evidence of wear. There is no evidence that much, if any, of it has ever been apart since it left the Factory.This is Important:The machine was last Taxed and MOT'd in July 1996 so has been off the road for just over 12 Years. Although my friend was unable to ride it any more due to ill health, for of those years he looked after it by turning it over on regular basis and of course kept it spotlessly clean. Unfortunately, after he passed away almost years ago, it has just remained covered in blankets in dry garage. As result of this, the Hydraulic Brake Seals have hardened and will require replacing. It will obviously require new Battery and would advise new Tyres although they remain inflated and show little wear, suspect that they are probably bit on the hard side.No attempt has been made to start it but it has very good compression and the oil is clear and spotlessly clean.So that is the background. This is an honest bike that with bit of TLC and some recommissioning will end up as valuable asset of fast appreciating Classic. Please study the Photo's carefully to form your own opinion. believe the shiny bits have been spayed with some sort of protective coating. Other that that, it obviously has accumulated bit of dust.It will come with Workshop Manual, Book on Commando's, Norton Tool Roll, another Toolbox and few spares (Plugs etc.)I must declare that am not Norton expert by any means but have consulted with those who have better knowledge than have.If you are looking for something to ride away today, this is not for you. I am offering it at starting price which believe is very fair given that with little care and attention it will be worth much more from what have seen similar, much higher mileage machines sell for.The Machine is located at My friend's house just mins drive away. I have also had couple of things pointed out to me that would like to pass on.It has an Oil Cooler Fitted which was told was standard for the US Market. am not sure if this is correct or not but will let you decide.It is fitted with Alloy Rims. Again, do not know if these are correct or an upgrade.I am also informed that the plastic Air Filter housing is missing. will have to see if it is available with the spare parts that will go with this bike.As have stated, am not an expert so you must satisfy yourself of the accuracy of my description. Again, if you are really serious, then will be more than happy for you to come and view before you bid.
