KAWASAKI KH400 1976.PRESENTABLE BIKE. I'VE OWNED IT FOR ONLY YEAR AND HALF, BUT IT'S REALLY NOT MY KIND OF THING. MY MATES HAD THESE IN 70s AND HAD GT380, BUT ALWAYS WANTED KAWASAKI. BRITISH BIKES ARE MORE MY THING NOWADAYS, BUT SOLD NORTON AND THOUGHT I'D GIVE THIS TRY. IT LOOKS QUITE SMART, BUT CLOSE UP THERE ARE BLEMISHES IN SOME STUFF AS MENTIONED BELOW.I HAVE INCLUDED PHOTO'S OF ISSUES.I HAVE MANAGED TO SOURCE GENUINE MIKUNI MAIN JETS, PILOT JETS AND SLIDE NEEDLES (which are very hard to find), AS IT HAD MIXTURE OF KH400 AND S3 PARTS. SO ITS NOW ON KH400 STANDARD CARBS AND AIR FILTER, AND RUNS AND RIDES AS IT SHOULD.NEW REAR WHEEL BEARINGS/SEALS, SPROCKET CARRIER BEARINGS/SEALS.RECENT CHAIN/SPROCKETS.REX'S SPEED SHOP ELECTRONIC IGNITION.ORIGINAL EXHAUSTS ON RH SIDE. NO MARKINGS ON LH SO ASSUME PATTERN. THERE IS HAIRLINE CRACK ON THIS LH EXHAUST AGAINST ITS MOUNTING BRACKET. (see photo)CHROME ON FRONT MUDGUARD IS RUSTY AT THE BOTTOM.ORIGINAL TAKASAGO RIMS.RIGHT HAND HEADLAMP MUNTING BRACKET IS RIPPLED BIT(see photo), AND THE BOTTOM OF THE HEADLIGHT BOWL SLIGHTLY OUT OF SHAPE, BUT HAVE INCLUDED GOOD SECOND HAND BOWL AND NEW ZPOWER RIM AND SCREWS.THERE IS ALSO AN ALMOST NEW PATTERN REAR MUDGUARD INCLUDED, BUT DONT RATE IT AS PARTICULARLY GOOD QUALITY.SOME OF THE PARTS ARE PATTERN PARTS, LIKE SWITCH GEAR THINK, AND SIDE PANELS.SEAT IS EXCELLENT.THERE IS FLAT PART ON THE TOIP FRAME TUBE(see photo). NO IDEA WHY. BUT BIKE RIDES STRAIGHT AND TRUE. DID THINK ABOUT CUTTING IT OUT AND WELDING IN NEW SECTION, BUT DIDNT.LITTLE BIT OF PAINT OFF AT FRONT OF TANK(see photo).THE V5 SAYS THIS BIKE WAS "Rebuilt-Assembled from parts". IDONT KNOW ANY HISTORY, AS THIS WASNT MENTIONED OF COURSE WHEN BOUGHT IT, BUT FRAME AND ENGINE NUMBERS ARE ONLY NUMBERS APART, SO ASSUME ARE THE FACTORY PAIRING.SO I'VE LISTED ALL THE BAD BITS, BUT ACTUALLY I'D GET ON THIS BIKE AND RIDE IT ANYWHERE. ITS GOOD RIDEABLE BIKE. I'M LOCATED BETWEEN NEWARK AND MANSFIELD, NOTTS. NO PAYPAL. CASH ON COLLECTION OR BANK TRANSFER, OR CHEQUE WITH COLLECTION ON CLEARANCE. STARTS AT £4500, NO BUY IT NOW. On 31-Mar-21 at 22:04:55 BST, seller added the following information:I have received this informative message which may be of interest, from someone who knows more about the KH400 than do.. "HI, have the same model as yours. Many KH400,s had parts for the S3 400 as Kawasaki used up parts that was left over from the S3. The exhausts look like they have been re chromed, the two on the right are for the KH, the one the left if the marking have not been rubbed off is S3 and will be stamped on the top by the footrest if it has not been rubbed off.My KH has exhausts from the S3. I dont know of any pattern exhausts for the 400 so will be original. It has build date of September 1976 (j6) on the rims.The engine and frame no will tell you if its S3 or KH.If it was import it would have needed dating certificate or the DVLA would class it as built from parts. Nice bike, great to ride. Hope this helps." I have checked the engine and frame numbers and they are KH400. Can't see any markings on LH exhaust.
