1964 Norton Dominator 650SS: Lovely original machine!

This lovely matching numbers Dommie, is UK bike from new, and is incredibly original having spent its entire life in East Anglia and has been off of the road in storage since 1977. It has recently been re-commissioned for the road and is an exceptionally original bike with just 15,591 miles from new.

She was first registered on 3rd February 1964 to her new owner in Witham Essex according to the buff logbook present with the bike, which confirms she is still on her original registration number and that the engine and frame numbers are the ones with which she left the factory with. She was owned for couple of years before being sold to her second owner on the 19th February 1966, also in Essex, and in 1970 she moved across the border to Suffolk and has remained in the same village for the last 51 years, with the last change of owner in 1974. She was then taken off of the road in 1977 (and the bike still wears her ’77 expiry tax disc with pride) and was put into storage for the next 47 years! She was fully re-commissoned earlier this year, with new fluids, plugs, leads, tyres, seat, Armours silencer, Motobatt Glassmatt  battery, and lots more and fully gone through.

The Dominator was game-changer when introduced its handling unsurpassed until the 1970’s thanks to its revolutionary Featherbed Frame as designed by Rex McCandless and its legendary Roadholder forks. The Dommie was the backbone of Norton production for many years and the Slimline Featherbed versions with the larger 650SS (Sport Special) engines, are reckoned to be the best Dommie amongst Norton aficionados and remain popular classic to own, with great spares back-up and very active owners club.

In lovely all-round condition, she is still sporting her twin carburettors and is super easy starting bike -going first or second kick, quickly settling down to nice tick-over once warmed up and rides faultlessly, sounds glorious and pulls up well, aided by her period John Tickle front brake.

A rare beast; in that she has been laid-up for over 44 years, she remains very original with low mileage and has glorious mellow patina and has been fully re-commissioned and is all ready for her next owner to ride and enjoy.
