Hello and welcome to our auction for our red 2005 1.4 VW beetle.The story is as follows...it was bought from local dealer, John Keeble, in 2011 with 63000 mikes on. It had only had one lady owner from new and was being sold because her son refused to do driving practice in it. As part of the deal we asked to have the cam belt changed, which he did, and this is documented in the bill of sale/service.The car was then used daily by my wife for the drive to work, which is ten minute run along the A14. It hasn’t done great deal of town work or heavy stop start traffic and this seems to have suited it. It’s easily been the most reliable car we’ve had, only needing one new ignition coil (it has one per cylinder) at cost of £16, an alarm reset when it went off after the key fob battery was changed and new back box on the exhaust.
As it got closer to rolling over to the hundred thousand mile mark my wife started looking for replacement and decided on Mini but didn’t want to see the beetle go so we decided to keep it as spare car. It has been kept garaged with battery conditioner on at all times and has been given run every now and then. It has both remote keys. All the tyres are very good, the water is still it’s original colour and has never needed topping up, everything works as it should electronics wise. changed the oil and filter every year using fully synthetic and think this has been the reason for it still sounding good and running well.
There are couple of negatives as follows; when we bought it the CD player didn’t work so replaced it with Sony head unit with CD and Auxiliary input. I’ve still got the original stereo if you want to try to fix it otherwise it’ll go in the bin. There are couple of places on the front of the roof where the clear coat has started to peel (please see photos), there are stone chips in the paint on the very front (this is from the faster daily drive along A14) also, on the glove box, there is bit of deterioration of the plastic from potent air freshener that was left resting directly on it. Lastly, the button to lock the car from inside is bit loose within its plastic but it still works fine (see photo).
Basically, this is good little car that is economical to run, in good condition for its age and is ready to drive away pending your insurance. It has been sorn since the tax ran out but you can arrange tax easily now and if you’d like to come and have look or give it test drive it could be arranged before the auction ends. Remember though, that it’s not insured at the moment so don’t rely on your policy stating that you are covered to drive another vehicle with the owners permission as that vehicle has to have insurance. I’ve used one day insurer to cover me to get to the MOT and that cost £20 so it’s feasible.
Anyway, thanks for looking. hope it’s obvious to genuine bidders that cash on collection would be best as PayPal attracts hefty fees. You will need to come and collect it, and you will have to communicate with me to confirm you are going to honour the deal. I’ve had occasional problems with terrible buyers of lower cost items who don’t seem to realise that this is all taking up someone else’s time and effort so smooth transaction is going to be good for everyone.Happy bidding.
