VEHICLE DESCRIPTION Ever driven one ofthese sedans with the powerful 3.0-liter turbocharged diesel engine? Where else will you find this kind of luxury,vintage style, safety, mechanical reliability AND terrific (27+MPG) fueleconomy wrapped up in one great ride? Smoothis the word for sure. Smooth handling in the curves or on the highway. I’ve always considered the W126 chassis carsconstructed through the late 80’s as some of the last hand-built, truly high-qualityMercedes and have heard others say the same thing! Look at the posted photos; I’msure you’ll agree with me what nice vehicle this is. Climb over, underand throughout and know you’ll come up smiling! What you see there is the result of wash and vacuumonly. Rust? Please, this car hates rust and you’ll be hardpressed to find anything to worry about here. Yes, western WashingtonState is famous for rain, but our winter roadsare rarely salted. At most we’ll have one or two days of light snow. Everyone panics and just stays home hunkered down with blanket and book. Climb over, under and all around thiscar know you’ll come up smiling!
Having personally owned dozens of Mercedes over the years, I’ve developed greatappreciation for the classic MB style, mechanical reliability (especially withdiesels) and the overall driving experience. THIS BENZ RUNS OUT VERY NICELY. I’VE SPENT SEVERAL WEEKS COMMUTING IN IT ANDAM CONVINCED YOU’LL BE PROUD TO OWN AND DRIVE IT AS WELL! CONDITION:In total, this is clean,well-cared-for classic Benz. take pride in these vehicles and feel youshould know as much about the them as possible. Accordingly, here’s alist of the good and also few small things needing attention: take literallytwo or three seconds to heat the glow plugs when starting cold and the peppy3.0L inline five diesel engine starts immediately with only few moments ofstarter cranking! The automatictransmission shifts through all the gears just as it should and withabsolutely no slippage. The car idles, runs and drives like Mercedes isbuilt to – strong, immediate oil pressure, no overheating and no brake pull side-to-side. do get bit of expected smoke at cold startup, but it very quickly stops as the car is driven.The original gold metallic paint hasbeen resprayed to the factory color sometime in the past. I’d say it’s out of 10. The windshield is free of cracks and chips. I’ve never encountered Mercedesalloy wheels that were anything but straight and true. These fit that bill and are wrapped withdecent touring radials with at least 60%-70% or so remainng tread all around.Take another good look at myinterior pics. The original tobacco brown leather seats (including the rear bench)have held up well; something you’ll not often encounter with vintage Benz. After checking the speedometer, it appearsaccurate. Because the mileage has beenexempt from reporting for several decades, I’m calling the true miles unknown. The heater blows warm air and the fanfunctions correctly. It appears the A/Csystem is complete, but will require upgrading to modern refrigerant to blowcold. There’s no evidence of any waterleakage on the headliner. From pastexperience with other W126 body Mercedes, I’ve made no attempt to open the power sunroof outof caution (or fear) of it then not closing. All four power windows do function properly. I get no movement from the power seats, but they're set to comfortable average distance and tilt. On positive note, the original factory carpetsare very clean and decent and the headliner is great, too! As is usually the case with most vintage Benz, the Becker GrandPrix radio was updated to more modern Kenwood AM-FM/CD sometime in the past.
