Listed for sale is 1947 Hudson Commodore Eight Convertible. Years ago tried to buy this convertible, and this coupe. At that time the owners would not sell them. was then able to purchase the convertible and the coupe in package deal. The convertible sat for many years in Portland OR, and mother nature was not very kind to the body. So used the coupe as donor car to repair the convertible body. Looking over the convertible, it was very clear that all of the floors would need to be replaced, and repair work to the rear quarters, running board/step area, door bottoms and lower cowl. When comparing the two bodies, one could see that they were the same in design. The convertible just had extra bracing and heavier door pillars. So instead of cutting out the bottom of the convertible, and about 10 inches up all the way around. It would be easier to just cut off the roof and door tops from the coupe, and use it like large patch panel. Building custom cars for living, it look pretty easy to do. have included pictures of the convertible coming apart. And pictures of the coupe coming apart, to give you an idea of what was done. The convertible frame was used (it does have extra bracing) And the coupe body was mounted on the convertible frame. Windshield frame was cut off the coupe, and the convertible windshield frame was welded on. Just what you do when chopping top, but no chop was done. Windshield height is stock. Rear convertible tub was braced, and cut free from rear section of the car body with all of the braces and door pillars still attached. Coupe rear door pillars and upper body sections were removed. And the convertible rear tub was lowered over the coupe body. Door pillars lined up and door gaps fitted. Trunk lid lined up with nice gaps. And the extra body under the upper convertible tub was marked and trimmed off so rear quarter seams could be butt welded back together. Coupe doors were modified just like the factory did, and convertible windows were installed. 1956 Chrysler 354 Hemi and 700R4 transmission were installed, and custom drive line was built. The rest of the frame, steering and suspensions are all stock. New brake system, fuel system, cooling system, wiring and exhaust system. Stainless trim was polished, chrome is all original. person could remove the engine and transmission, and unbolt the radiator core support. And install original Hudson drive train. Transmission tunnel and fire wall were not altered. New radial tires on stock 16 inch wheels. Car is complete with all convertible parts, bows, rams and pump. have the front and rear wooden header bows that can be used for patterns. was very pleased how the conversion came out, and if ever did another one. would not change thing on how did it. very easy modification to do on coupe body, if you have donor convertible body. They are the same, it is how the factory did it. just have welded seam in different place. With the car sand blasted and painted you would never be able to tell. This is not coupe turned into convertible. It is tagged and titled as convertible (because it is) And has ALL of the correct bracing/pillars and frame for convertible. Now it is very solid and complete. parted out four 47 Hudson's, and kept the best trim and sheet metal for this convertible. It is fun to drive and gets lot of looks. Drive it the way it is, or tear it down and start the painting process. have photo album that goes with the car, showing the complete process. Can email pictures as per your request. Please let me know if you have any questions, know everything about this car, and did all of the work on it. wildironccc.com I can remove the Hemi engine and the 700R4 transmission. And install Hudson Commodore Straight eight engine with over drive transmission. If the new owner would rather go in the direction of restoration, when finishing out the car.
