You are bidding on an original spec and recently restored 1979 Ford Escort 1600 Sport. These were models only built in South Africa and New Zealand. This particular car is South African model. The Sports were built with the 1600 Kent (Crossflow) motor, mild cam and larger Weber downdraft carburettor to give it more sporty performance. This was matched to close ratio 4speed manual box, stiffer suspension and wider Rostyle steel rims. Front discs and rear drums complete the handling package. Visually, the cars were delivered with split front bumpers and bumper mounted spot-lights, front spoiler (normally black), blacked out rear tail light panel and the Sport stripes similar to that of the RS2000. The interior had sporty, striped seats, three spoke steering wheel, drop down centre console and "Sport" engraved into the passenger side dashboard. This particular car was recently restored. The paint is new and and there is no rust. The floors, sills and guards are all solid. We can supply more photos of the areas commonly known to rust, as eBay only allows 12 photos. The underside of the car is clean and has been painted black. New Gabriel shocks have been fitted, the rims have been refurbished with near new Firestone tyres. All glass is good with no chips on the windscreen. The interior is still very neat and original. The carpets are good, as is the original cloth on the seats. There are one or two small stains on the seats, but nothing that won't scrub out. The black headlining is perfect and the dash is uncracked. The door light in the roof needs new lens, and the drivers sunvisor needs repair or to be replaced. The door cards are good and there have been speakers fitted to both door cards. There is no radio fitted in the centre console, but the wiring is there. Electrically, everything seems to work and the only issue can see is bit of surface rust in the left side headlight ideally needs replacing. Mechanically, the car seems fine with no noticeable oil leaks, no smoke on start up and smooth idle. Clutch and brakes are typical of 1970's Ford, and the car pulls up straight, and tracks true. This is pretty unique and rare Escort in Australia. There will be very little to spend on making this car 100% if you are very picky. I'm happy to answer any questions or supply more photos.
